Page of Cups

Cups in my hands.
Cups on my arms.
Cups on my tentacles—
eyes all around.

Under the sea,
deep, deep, deep,
this place is for me—
nothing can get past my beak.

The rocking.
The swaying.
The jellyfish quaking.
Oh, no, I'm shaking.

But I've got this!
They not going to fall—
I can handle them all.

All the water in the ocean
is balanced right here—
and nothing can stop me
because I'm containing my fear.

Drip.
Drop.
Not one plop.
That's only sweat on my brow.

Arms outstretched,
I'm safe on my rock.
I hold the cups, one and all—
without really holding them at all.

Not even the sharks—
with their rows and rows
of teeth—
can tumble these cups
or see through
the curtain of my ink.

What's inside—
I don't want to know—
so I'll keep juggling
these cups of mine.

Under the sea, Eight performs a scene. Perched on her rock, her hands, arms, and tentacles juggle cups in every direction. it all. Will they spill, or can she handle them all? Her audience watches while the chorus of sea creatures supports her act. Her smile shows confidence, but she’s new to all this. Knowing there might not be a happy surprise inside each cup, she stays on her rock, balancing.

The Page of Cups is the child of emotions, creativity, and dreams. She can represent you, another adult displaying these traits, or an actual child in your life. She brings new creative opportunities, emotional discoveries, and moments where imagination leads the way.

You appreciate the wonder and beauty in the world and often live inside your dreams. Like the giant squid performing her act, you create a fanciful world around you when reality feels too heavy. Playful and intuitive, you follow your feelings easily and see possibilities others may overlook.

But sensitivity can tip into overwhelm. Your emotions may swing quickly between joy and sadness, especially when the world refuses to match the dream you hoped for. You may try to keep everyone happy or control the players in your life so the performance continues. Remember that feelings aren’t meant to be perfectly balanced forever—sometimes a cup must spill over so you can discover what’s inside.

Dysfunctional Family Roles: The Mascot, The Clown, The Lost Child, The Dreamer, The Loner

In an unhealthy family dynamic, the Page of Cups may slip into roles that keep the emotional waters calm. You might become the Dreamer or the Lost Child, retreating into imagination when conflict appears. Or you may become the Mascot or Clown, keeping things light so the heaviness inside doesn’t surface.

It can feel lonely to grow up where love and emotion aren’t freely expressed. You may search for family in friends or in the worlds you create in your mind. But deep within you is an emotional well that no dysfunction can truly diminish.

Protect the forever-child inside you. Just remember that avoiding difficult feelings forever will keep you skimming the surface. To reach the true depths of the ocean, you must sometimes reveal the treasures uncovered.
